Checking in...

Hey ya’ll,

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything. Currently have three patients in rehab, all car wrecks and one of which will not be releasable. Glove training this big female has proven problematic because the manning process requires many hours spent on the glove. The weight of this big girl makes my left hand keep going to sleep due to the car wreck I had over 2 years ago. Just gave the court deposition on July 18th, but no word yet on whether they will a)offer me a settlement, b)it goes into mediation, or c) we schedule a court date. Anyway, I’ve had problems with my left wrist ever since and not being able to support the weight of this disabled bird to complete the manning process means that I will not be able to properly glove train her for mobile programs. I am faced with either finding another facility that can take her as an education bird, or put her to sleep.

If you keep scrolling down past this post, you'll see them.   All lovely Red-tailed hawks…

On to the main subject that I need to bring to your attention…it’s about our annual calendar. Unfortunate news, I am afeared. The cost has gone up, or shall I say my profits have gone DOWN, so I have to pre-sell 58 of them in order to pay to have them printed. They will not front the money or give us a grace period this year. Also, I won’t be able to cover the postage like I have in years past, so I’ll have to increase the cost from 20.00 to 23.00, unless it’s local and I can drop it off for less than I could mail it or you can swing by for the pick-up. I don’t like doing this business stuff. I’m not good at it and it makes me sort of sad to even think about the cost increase. I feel like I’m going backwards rather than forwards…like I said, I’m not good at business stuff.

The calendar proceeds don’t go to anything spiffy like purchasing another exotic that I could use to educate people, a nice load or three of gravel, or chamber maintenance, or replacing my old watt-gobbling freezer…nope, it goes to pay our property taxes so HawkTalk can continue to live on this land. Even though the property is owned outright, we still ‘rent’ it from the state and they don’t have much of a sense of humor when it comes to money… Private property rights have somehow gone out the window while we were looking the other way.

Bottom line is this, I either have to have to solicit 1,106.00 in donations to pay for the printing OR have at least 58 people who would like the 2014 HawkTalk calendar to pre-pay so we can get in the printing queue… *sigh*

If there is anyone out there HOO could possibly help us make the calendars happen again this year, we sure would appreciate it.

You can go over to our web site www.hawktalk.org and click on ‘donate’, which will take you to the secure PayPal site and just follow the prompts. Please be sure you leave a mailing address and say it’s for the 2014 calendar in the comment box.

If you are hinky about sending funds electronically, you can snail mail it to:

Thanks for your continued help. I can’t do this by myself…learned that a looong time ago….m.

“Frazier” the RTH I just picked up today. Boo-Boo eye, misaligned mandible and a questionable leg…otherwise, he’s perfect!

New patient in the house!

I feel like the little old lady who lived in a shoe...

Jimmy Ray...

I know it's all supposed to be all butterflies and happy kittens, because that's what brings in Mouse Money donations, but sadly, that isn't my reality... I just wanted you to see that making the transition isn't all horrible. I hope when my time comes, it will be this calm and smooth.

RIP Jimmy Ray, you're in a better place now...
