He seems to be looking at you with those big brown eyes and saying "aw mom, not chicken I want a big fat juicy mouse". The look of adoration would make my heart burst...it kind of makes up for some of the sad stuff. I have Barreds on my property and they come up and Hooah, and they make this soft chitter sound ....is it juveniles begging?
Could very well be juvies and they're on their own now with only about a 20% chance of surviving their first winter. It's a cold, cruel world out there for critters who have to kill every time they eat. I replaced the chicks with mice, which he promptly gobbled up!
