Wally has a strong desire to live, you can tell the way he is taking the food. I think he's a fighter, and that's in his favor b/c as I'm sure you know some raptors, especially the owls are very sensitive and some survive the injuries only to succumb to stress, or they just decide they don't want to live anymore, and tragically, they will themselves to die. I'm no expert, but I bet this one is going to make it, and I cannot commend you and Dr. Martinez enough for giving him a second chance....I agree with you totally about your post about soft hacking, I think it should be mandated that ALL raptors are soft hacked, the odds are stacked against them enough already and they need all the help they can get. I also believe all wildlife rehabbers should be payed well for the selfless, dedicated life they lead 24/7 to take care of their charges. It's a real shame that rehabbers such as yourself, have to worry about mortgage payments and mouse money-the Feds should step in and provide housing allowance and mouse money, I used to work for the government and the things they waste money on could be of better use looking out for you guys. Take care Hugs, D.

Thank you for your kind words... Alas, neither the state nor the feds care one whit about the individual bird; they are only concerned about the group as a whole. What I do doesn't affect the species one way or the other; I am merely the intermediary between the good samaritan and the bird in distress, helping one at the time...
